MEET THE TEAM
Hanneke Smits
Hanneke Smits is Global Head of Investment Management and a member of BNY Mellon’s Executive Committee.
With over 30 years of investment experience, Hanneke was previously CEO of Newton Investment Management, a BNY Mellon Investment Management firm, from 2016 to 2020. Prior to Newton, she served on the Executive Committee at private equity firm Adams Street Partners from 2001 to 2014, having been Chief Investment Officer from 2008 to 2014. She joined Adams Street in 1997 to build out its global investment capabilities, and successfully launched its presence in Europe and Asia. Before joining Adams Street, she was an investment manager at Pantheon Ventures, and worked for Philips China Hong Kong Group.
Hanneke is the Executive Sponsor for PRISM, BNY Mellon’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, and serves as Chair of Impetus, a venture philanthropy organization which backs charities to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people. As part of her role with Impetus, she is Trustee of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), founded in 2011 by The Sutton Trust in partnership with Impetus. Hanneke was also a Non-Executive Director to the Court of the Bank of England, and a co-founder and first Chair of Level 20, a not-for-profit organization set up in 2015 to inspire women to join and succeed in the private equity industry.
Originally from the Netherlands, Hanneke has a BBA from Nijenrode University and an MBA from the London Business School.
Matt Oomen
Matt Oomen is Head of Global Distribution for BNY Mellon Investment Management. Matt oversees all global distribution activity, which includes sales, product, marketing and client service functions. The distribution business owns and distributes a number of fund ranges and vehicles across the world and helps BNY Mellon Investment Management's specialist investment firms to expand their institutional footprint globally.
Previously, Matt was Head of EMEA Intermediary and Institutional Distribution.
Since joining the organisation in 2001, Matt has held several roles covering client management, strategy and operations at BNY Mellon Investment Management, including as Head of Platinum Clients & Global Financial Institutions. Prior to joining BNY Mellon Matt worked in a number of distribution positions in the Insurance industry. Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is a member of UKSIP.
Shamik Dhar
Shamik Dhar has 36 years’ experience as an economist. Starting in H.M. Treasury as an economic assistant in the mid-1980s, he moved to Oxford Economic Forecasting and then spent most of the 1990s as a senior economist in the Bank of England, where he worked on the UK economic forecast in the early days of inflation targeting and on monetary policy analysis in the early days of the Monetary Policy Committee.
Shamik moved to Aviva Investors (formerly Morley Fund Management) in 2000 and spent the next 14 years in the City of London, ending up as a Head of Investment Strategy. In 2014, he became Chief Economist at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in a period of rapid geopolitical and
economic change, advising ministers and senior officials on the economics of Brexit. Shamik joined BNY Mellon as Global Chief Economist in October 2018.
Shamik has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and a master’s in economics from Queen Mary College, University of London. He also spent a year as a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania in the mid-1990’s.
Michael Beveridge
Michael Beveridge is Head of UK Intermediary Distribution at BNY Mellon Investment Management, leading the UK Wholesale Distribution team, covering all wholesale channels. Working closely with other functional areas across the business and the seven investment firms, Michael ensures a strong connection between the UK investment professionals and BNY Mellon Investment Management.
Michael has 23 years’ experience of the UK Wholesale market. Previous experience includes a pivotal role in building the Aberdeen Standard Investments brand from a distribution lens in the UK.
Richard Parkin
Richard Parkin is Head of Retirement for BNY Mellon Investment Management. In this role he is responsible for working with our intermediary clients on developing their approach to retirement planning and investment. He also acts as a spokesperson for the firm on retirement issues particularly as they relate to investment.
Richard has over 30 years’ experience in the industry, focused entirely on Defined Contribution (DC) pensions and retirement. He started his career as a DC Investment Consultant at Towers Perrin in 1991 moving to a product development role with Phillips & Drew (now UBS Global Asset Management) in 1998. Richard joined Fidelity International four years later where he originally led its workplace proposition team before taking the role of Head of Retirement for the UK business in 2013, just before the introduction of pension freedom and choice.
He left Fidelity at the end of 2017 to set up his own business providing strategy consulting to pension providers and asset managers as well as delivering an award-winning annual research report on retirement advice with NextWealth. During this time Richard worked closely with BNY Mellon Investment Management before taking up his role with the firm in March 2023.
Richard is also a non-executive director and chair of the Risk Committee at the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. He holds a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick. Richard has a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick.
Euan Munro
Euan Munro is CEO of Newton Investment Management. Euan is a seasoned investment management executive with a background in macro investing. Previously, Euan worked at Aviva Investors where he was chief executive officer and a member of the Aviva plc group executive team for seven years. Prior to this, Euan spent nearly 20 years at Standard Life Investments (SLI) where he was head of multi-asset and fixed-interest investing and was latterly a member of their board. He joined SLI as an inflation-linked portfolio manager from Scottish Provident in 1995.
Euan has a first class honours degree in Physics from the University of Edinburgh and is a Fellow of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Wharton Business School, Philadelphia.
Jane Henderson
Jane is Managing Director of Walter Scott. Having joined the firm in 1995 as an investment analyst, she has held a range of investment, management, client service and governance responsibilities and was instrumental in the development of the firm’s US investment strategy. Jane co-chaired Walter Scott’s Investment Management Group before becoming Managing Director in 2010. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine and Environmental Biology from the University of St Andrews.
Abdallah Nauphal
As Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Abdallah leads the development of Insight’s strategic business plan. Abdallah was appointed Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in September 2003 with overall responsibility for the investment management team, and in June 2006 was appointed Deputy Chief Executive.
In July 2007, Abdallah became Insight’s CEO, while retaining his position as CIO. Abdallah has over 30 years’ industry experience. He has overseen the transformation of Insight from a traditional investment manager to a specialist solutions provider across LDI, fixed income and absolute return. During this time, the scope and complexity of Insight’s business and governance structures has evolved significantly. As a result, in 2016, Abdallah relinquished his CIO responsibilities, to focus on the role of CEO.
Abdallah’s previous roles include CIO (fixed income) at Rothschild Asset Management and Head of Fixed Income for Schroder Investment Management Limited in London.
Abdallah holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from New England College, an MS in Information Systems and an MBA in Finance and Investments from George Washington University.
